Cherry Blossoms “HANAMI”

   Now, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Tokyo.

The favorite blossom in Japan is the cherry blossom.

People feel it is spring, when the blossoms are blooming.

The blossoms bloom from the end of March and last just 10 days

every year.  This is the same time of year as the end of school

and fiscal year.

So the cherry blossoms are a symbol of spring, graduation or

entrance to school and the start of new lives.

A single cherry blossom is very small and pale, but mass of

blossoms have a very beautiful light pink color.

Cherry trees are planted here and there in Japan, along rivers

and road sides, in parks and gardens etc.

Many Japanese go to“HANAMI”.  “HANAMI” means to go and

see the cherry blossoms with colleagues, family and friends.

People have a good time under the cherry blossoms, eating and

drinking and often singing.
